UK Motor Car Driving Test Practice Exam
The UK Motor Car Driving Test assesses your ability to drive safely and competently on public roads. Passing this test allows you to obtain a full UK driving licence.
Who Should Take the Test?
Anyone who wants to drive a car on public roads in the UK needs to pass this test, unless they already hold a valid driving licence from another country with a reciprocal agreement.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for the UK Motor Car Driving Test, you must:
- Be at least 17 years old.
- Hold a valid UK provisional driving licence.
- Meet the eyesight requirements (which can be a basic sight test at an optician).
Test Format:
The UK Motor Car Driving Test consists of three parts:
- Theory Test: This computer-based test assesses your knowledge of the Highway Code, road signs, traffic regulations, and safe driving practices. You need to answer 50 multiple-choice questions and a hazard perception test.
- Practical Driving Test: This on-road test evaluates your driving skills in various situations, including moving off, stopping, changing lanes, junctions, reversing, and responding to road signs and markings.
- Vehicle Safety Check: You'll be asked to demonstrate basic car maintenance knowledge by performing a few simple checks on your vehicle, like checking tyre pressure and fluid levels.
Topics Covered:
The test covers a wide range of topics related to safe driving, including:
- The Highway Code: Understanding road signs, traffic signals, and general rules of the road.
- Car Control: Demonstrating smooth and controlled use of the clutch, brakes, steering, and gears.
- Manoeuvres: Performing basic manoeuvres such as reversing around a corner, parallel parking, and emergency stops.
- Observation: Maintaining awareness of your surroundings, checking mirrors, and anticipating hazards.
- Road Positioning: Positioning your vehicle safely and appropriately on the road.
- Road Courtesy: Respecting other road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles.
