Software components can interact with one another across many computers on a local area network (LAN), a wide area network (WAN), or the internet due to Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM), an extension of the Component Object Model (COM).
A collection of tools known as COM run in a client-side context. Installation of COM objects is necessary on the machine where they will be utilized. Installation is necessary someplace on the same network.
